MaNoWriMo, alien babies, and all that matters.

Apparently when writing a full-length novel, I find that I don't spend much time blogging. I'm a guy after all, and we are a species capable of only one thing at a time. Try to give a male any more than that and his head will explode a mix of brain matter and information overload all over the wall (I just grossed myself out there a little bit). Hence the reason why my posts are so infrequent.

Moving on to actually talking about my novel, or should I say "novels." Yes, a lot has changed since my last post. I now have two full-length story ideas in the works, and here's the kicker - I am spending more time on the second idea.

I think the first idea has been with me so long (about 8 years) that I needed to step back from it for a while and start something fresh. While the first book will be dystopian fiction, this second book has much more of a sci-fi ring to it. I started my own NaNOWriMo event I am dubbing...take a guess...MaNoWriMo! So original, huh? Anyways, for me it's 50,000 words by June 1st. So far I'm on track with my daily word count, and I am seeing an atrocious rough draft develop on the page before my very eyes. It quite honestly hurts to look at it, because it's so horrible. So beautifully and amazingly horrible!

It's kind of like a sci-fi film where a woman gets an alien popping out of her stomach. Sure the thing hurts coming out and is uglier than sin, but give the little creature some time to develop and you might find that he grows on you (well we hope that he doesn't latch on and literally grow ON you, but you get what I'm saying...I hope). Anyway, that's me and my rough draft right now. Boy is it ugly and sure hurts coming out without my inner editor picking it apart, but I am actually having a ton of fun writing it and seeing where it leads. I've needed that freedom to get to just be creative without worrying about being good in hopes that someday I will be able to revise my way into something good and worthy of publication.

That's all I have for now. Hopefully I can get the Feedblitz box back up here in case people want to subscribe to my ramblings. Right now I need to go to work and try to get the pictures of brain matter and the alien out of my head. Until next time!

Good for you, Josh! Praying you can make that goal (and yeah, ALL rough drafts are awful. REALLY awful. But you can't fix a blank sheet of paper! Don't forget that :)).

Are you still around, Josh?
